About us
We build websites the way rare things grow.
Slowly enough to get the roots right, and carefully enough that the result is worth stopping for. Blue Poppy Sites is a three-person studio that designs custom websites and helps small businesses get found online.
Where the name comes from
The blue poppy grows wild high in the Himalayas, on cold, wet slopes where very little else blooms. It is the national flower of Bhutan, and it is famous among gardeners for one reason: it is hard to grow anywhere else. Plant it in the wrong soil, give it too much sun or too little patience, and it simply won't flower.
When it does bloom, people stop and stare. A poppy that colour shouldn't exist, and that is exactly why it is remembered.
We think a good website should get the same reaction: "Wait, who made this?"
Most small business websites are built from the same handful of templates, so they end up looking and sounding like their competitors. Visitors can't tell them apart, so they choose on price or leave. We start from a blank page instead, with your business, your customers and the way you actually win work.
The other half of the name is the care. A rare plant needs the right conditions after it is planted, not just on day one. That's why we stay on after launch, looking after hosting, updates, search rankings and marketing, so the site keeps growing instead of slowly going stale.
What we believe
Five rules we don't bend.
They shape every project, from a five-page site for a new business to a full rebuild. Open any of them to see what it means in practice.
01Custom beats copied.
We never start from a theme. Every layout is drawn for your business, which means your site can lead with what makes you different instead of squeezing it into someone else's boxes. It also means no bloated page builder slowing things down behind the scenes. How we design websites.
02Fast is a feature.
Most people will see your site on a phone, often on a patchy connection. If it takes too long to appear, they go back and tap the next result. We build mobile-first, keep pages light, and test on real devices before anything goes live.
03Words do the selling.
Beautiful design gets attention. Clear words turn that attention into a phone call. We plan every page around the questions your customers ask before they buy and help you answer them in plain language, so visitors know within seconds that they're in the right place.
04Launch is the beginning.
A website that never changes slowly loses ground in search and stops matching the business it describes. We look after sites after launch, with updates, backups, edits and steady SEO work, so yours keeps earning its keep. What ongoing care includes.
05Straight answers, no jargon.
You'll always know what you're paying for, what happens next and why we recommend something. Quotes are fixed before work begins, and if a request doesn't make sense for your business, we'll tell you. See our pricing.
The team
Three people. No hand-offs.
You won't be passed from a salesperson to an account manager to someone you never meet. The people you talk to are the people doing the work.
The difference
Template or tailored? See the difference.
Here's how a site from us compares with the template route many small businesses take first.
| Topic | Typical template site | Blue Poppy Sites |
|---|---|---|
| Design | A theme shared with thousands of other businesses | Designed from a blank page around your brand |
| Words | Placeholder headings you fill in yourself | Pages planned around what your customers ask |
| Speed | Heavy builders and plugins that slow every page | Lean, hand-built pages, tested on real phones |
| Search | SEO left as a plugin setting | Structure, titles and local signals built in from day one |
| After launch | You're on your own when something breaks | Hosting, updates, backups and edits handled for you |
| Who you talk to | A support queue | The three people who built your site |
