Calm numbers for busy owners.

Fieldnote Finance is a small team of finance advisors who work with owner-led businesses. We named ourselves after the field notebook: short, careful notes, written down as you go, so nothing important gets lost.

That is how we think about your finances too. Steady attention, every month, in words you can use.

Our approach

Three things we hold to.

These shape how we work with every client, whatever the size of the business.

Clear before clever

A simple number you understand beats a complex one you do not. If we cannot explain it in a sentence, we keep working on it.

Steady beats heroic

The best finance work is a quiet monthly habit, not a rescue mission. We keep the rhythm so problems show up while they are still small.

Your call, always

We bring the numbers, the options and an honest opinion. You know your business and your customers. The decision stays with you.

What we do and do not do

Our ledger, balanced.

Clear lines make for good partnerships. Here is where our work starts and stops.

On our sideWhat we take on
Not our lineWhat we leave to others
  • 01Cash flow forecasts and planning
  • 02Budgets and monthly reporting
  • 03Pricing and profitability analysis
  • 04Preparing for loans and investor talks
  • 05Thinking partner for big decisions
  • 01Personal wealth or retirement planning
  • 02Recommending or selling investments
  • 03Filing taxes (your CPA does that)
  • 04Legal advice (your attorney does that)
  • 05Day-to-day bookkeeping entries
The team

Who you will work with.

A small team on purpose. You will always know who is looking after your numbers, and you will talk to the same people every month.

Helen Marsh

Founder and Fractional CFO

Helen leads client relationships and runs the monthly reviews. She started Fieldnote to give owner-led businesses the steady finance partner they rarely get. She likes makers, shops and service firms, anyone who would rather talk plainly than read a fifty-page report.

Samuel Okafor

Finance Lead, Forecasting and Reporting

Samuel builds the forecasts and monthly reports. He keeps every model simple enough to explain in a sentence. Away from the numbers, he is usually on a bike somewhere around the lakes.
