Landscape design, build and care in Richmond, VA

A yard you’ll want to be in.

We plan it, build it, and keep it looking good. Patios, planting, lawns and lighting for homes around Richmond, all from one local crew.

  • A plan before we digYou see a drawing of the whole yard first.
  • One crew, start to finishThe people who build it can care for it.
  • Local to RichmondWe know the clay, the heat and the deer.

Design comes first

We draw it before we build it.

Every project starts on paper. You see where the patio goes, how the path bends and what grows where, and you can change your mind for free while it’s still a drawing.

  1. 1Stone patio sized for the table you actually own
  2. 2Fire pit far enough from the house, close enough to the kitchen
  3. 3Curved path to the back gate, so nobody cuts across the lawn
  4. 4Planting bed of shrubs and perennials along the fence
  5. 5Shade tree where you’ll want shade in ten years

All year round

Four seasons, four kinds of work.

A yard is never finished. Here is what we do through a Richmond year, so yours keeps getting better after the build crew leaves.

Yellow daffodils coming up along a dry stone wall

Wake it up.

The busiest stretch of the year. We clear out winter, sharpen the edges and get new plants in while the soil is cool and damp.

  • Spring cleanup: leaves, dead stems and storm debris
  • Bed edging and a fresh layer of mulch
  • New beds, shrubs and perennials
  • Irrigation start-up and a full system check

Keep it looking good.

Heat and humidity do most of the damage in a Richmond summer. Steady care keeps the lawn thick and the beds tidy.

  • Weekly mowing, trimming and blowing off hard surfaces
  • Watering checks and controller changes as it heats up
  • Pruning shrubs after they flower
  • Patios, walls and lighting builds
A garden in autumn with red maples, ornamental grasses and low plantings

Plant for next year.

Fall is the best time to plant trees and shrubs and to fix a tired lawn. Roots grow while the tops rest.

  • Core aeration and overseeding for cool-season lawns
  • Trees, shrubs and spring bulbs go in
  • Leaf removal, as often as your trees need it
  • Irrigation shut-down before the first freeze
Ornamental grasses standing tall in a garden dusted with snow

Plan the big stuff.

The yard is quiet, so we draw. Winter is the best time to design a project and get on the build calendar before spring.

  • Design visits and plan drawings
  • Pruning trees and shrubs while they are dormant
  • Hardscape work when the ground allows
  • Storm cleanup when branches come down
